Video Sunday: A Tale of Two Lanes

The Midlands is not known for it’s masses of greenlanes.

They are here. Just not that many. And of the few there are, it seems local council’s are doing their typical thing and slowly TROing them. Or surfacing them, just to strip our fun away.

But there’s still a few to be sampled.

For example…

…there’s one close’ish to me that’s a ‘tale of two lanes’.

There’s the resurfaced hard-pack gravel side, that any ol’ car could go down – and they do.

As a challenging lane, it’s a no-go. But as a pleasant, bouncy, non-damaging drive through a country park it hits the spot.

The ‘other side’, however…

…turns out it’s a little bit more than I expected.

Heading back from the country park the other week, pulling out onto the main road I decided f*ck it and launched across the road and into the other half of the green lane. I know where it comes out and it’s on the way home anyway. What I didn’t know was the condition.

Heading through the fields I was stuck in ruts. Which wasn’t a problem, until the sidesteps started grounding out (mental note: add ‘remove side steps’ to Lucky’s task list). I got through though, and was on hard-pack gravel. Then the lane narrowed, with hedges either side.

It’s obviously unused much by motors because Lucky’s got the battle scars to prove it.

Thankfully, the scratches are superficial, and will buff out with a bit of t-cut.

I don’t go out of my way to damage the Landys. But on the flip side – unless it looks like it’ll seriously damage or cripple the car – I’m unlikely to back down.

We’re of the opinion at OLR that old Landys should be used, not stored in a heated garage, and buffed up all nice & shiny to within an inch of their lives.

After getting home, I was bit miffed because I didn’t film it.

But then I remembered… because I had the dashcam running at the time, I DID have some footage.

I’ll be the first to admit, it’s not exactly exciting, or long (only a couple of minutes). But as it’s Lucky’s first foray off-road, under my ownership, I thought it was worth sharing.
